CQ5 - Gotchya - when impersonating as another user, cannot access admin

The Problem

When impersonating as a user without admin rights, you are immediately locked out of cq5 admin, and cannot log back in, even as an administrator.

The Solution

You need to have read rights to the admin section to be able to log in, even when as an administrator. The cleanest way to get your admin user account back, is to log out, by pasting the following URL into your browser. (Assuming you are on localhost and your port is 4502).

  1. Hi, I am trying to impersonate a user. I logged in as a non-admin user, and then added some users to the impersonators tab. Still the added users do not appear in the impersonators drop down.

    1. Did you find a solution to this? I am facing the same issue with LDAP users

  2. Impersonation works the other way around.

Say you are John Smith and wish to impersonate Jane Doe, you would need to open up Jane Doe's profile, and add John Smith as an impersonator.

You can then log in as John Smith to impersonate as Jane Doe.

Let me know if that doesn't make sense.

  3. Issue : A user with admin rights couldn't impersonate another user in AEM 6.1
Any guesses on what could be the problem?
